Senator Pomerone of Ohio pushes a resolution asking for information from the attorney general about Standard Oil and a alleged monopoly. The measure cites a Supreme Court ruling and calls for criminal action under the Sherman act if no prior prosecutions exist. Washington club circles remain disturbed by the exit of Brigadier General Clarence R. Edwards, Lieutenant Colonel Charles J. McCawley, and Captain Templin M. Potts from the Metropolitan club board of governors after President Taft accused the practice of blackmailing proposed members.
The House approved by 214 to 57 a joint resolution admitting Arizona and New Mexico to statehood. It proposes an Arizona constitution amendment that would bar judiciary recall by popular vote, optional for electors to ratify. If rejected, Arizona may join with recall provisions intact.
