Two Day Clinic Explores Pa Industrial Expansion

Harrisburg AP reports Pennsylvania begins a two day industrial development clinic to assess statewide expansion efforts. More than 350 leaders from government and business attend sessions on assets, site advantages, and ways to boost industry and cut unemployment. PIDA funds and local projects highlight job creation in coal regions.

Youths Held Here In Auto Theft

Two 16 year old youths from Pittsburgh were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle following an early Saturday crash on Route 422 four miles west of Indiana State. The car stolen earlier that day belonged to John Lampl of Pittsburgh. The incident caused a barn to be struck but no injuries to the youths were reported. A separate 12:30 a.m. crash on Route 119 near Route 85 left Gerald Simpson, 16, Creekside, with facial cuts and knee abrasions. his condition was listed as satisfactory. Damage totaled about $1,000. A second head on collision near Mechanicsburg involved Thomas Hill, 19, Blairsville RD 1, and Joseph Arone, 53, Homer City, with minor damage. A passing incident near Rayne on Routes 119 and 110 involved Antonio Calabria, 69, Ebensburg, and tractor wagon operator John Soulden, 58, Indi.

Auto Strikes Three Cars Parked Here

Walter Lee Beatty aged 34 of Indiana Borough RD 3 is in fair condition at Indiana Hospital after a series of auto accidents yesterday. Beatty, driving a car owned by Ethel Capenos, struck two parked vehicles on Philadelphia Street and one on North Fourth Street around 12:30 p.m. He also reportedly knocked down a traffic sign at Fourth and Chestnut. The parked cars belonged to E L Cunningham, Hazel Moore, and August Guido. Estimated total damage was $479.

Khrushchev Attends Austrian Ice Show With Aides

Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and seven Presidium members attended an Austrian ice show Sunday night. Pravda ran a front-page story on the visit as Mikoyan’s 16-day absence sparked speculation of political trouble.

Ike Sets Summit Talk To Nation

President Eisenhower will address the nation by TV and radio on Wednesday evening in a 30 minute report. The White House said the talk will cover the Paris summit collapse and outline future aims of the United States and its allies. Networks will carry the address live with NBC-TV joining at 10 p.m. EDT to accommodate those unable to view at 8 p.m. EDT.

Japanese World War II holdout surrenders in Guam after 15 years

AP reports Masahitto Ito, 40, the last surviving member of a six man group that fled into Guam jungle in 1944, surrendered after companion Bunzo Minagawa was captured by two Guamanians. Ito said he is glad to return to Japan but shamed by the old Japanese code that values death over surrender. Memorial Day flowers noted at Learn's Greenhouse.

US and Soviet Union set for U2 espionage debate

United States and Soviet Union prepare for a Security Council debate on U2 espionage likely to widen East West tensions after last week's Paris summit. The Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal on the validity of Sunday blue laws. Five Jewish merchants of Philadelphia challenged Pennsylvania's blue laws and a 1959 amendment. The court had granted hearings on blue laws from Maryland Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Chile Earthquakes Slam Chile For Third Straight Day

Santiago reports a third day of earthquakes and gigantic tides blamed for more than 330 dead or missing. A six foot wave toppled into the Hilo Theater plunging the city into darkness by shorting the power station. In Honolulu water rose near Waikiki Beach and Kalakaua Avenue before receding. Police in Kauai noted twelve inches of flooding.

Cuban Forces Reported Gathering for Guantanamo March

NORFOLK Va AP The Ledger Star says Cuban forces near Guantanamo Naval Base may march on the facility. Reports cite Fidel Castro forces assembling in Guantanamo City to create a shooting incident while U S sentries were warned. Navy confirms defense under treaty since 1903 renegotiated 1934. County Man Receives 60 Day Jail Term in Burglary Case

Robert Albert Davis of Homer City RD 1 pleaded guilty before Judge Edwin M. Clark to burglary larceny and receiving stolen goods. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail plus costs and a $60 fine for a May 11 break in at Louis J. Hoz’s Brushvalley Township dwelling, where five dollars was taken. Two Cherry Tree area men received suspended sentences for larceny from a May 14 Arcadia incident involving four hubcaps, contingent on costs, a $100 fine and one year probation. Thomas Chronowski of McIntyre was fined costs after guilty plea to operating after suspension, claiming NC license. license had been suspended in 1957 prior to service, and he’s placed on probation for a year. Leroy Richard McDermott of Nicktown RD pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. sentencing delayed due to Cambria County warrants.

Four West German mountain climbers, two youths and two girls, perished in a blinding snow storm near Tannheim Austria on Sunday night, succumbing to exhaustion.

Four Dead From Chilean Tsunami Hits Hawaii Islands

AP reports powerful tidal waves generated by a Chilean earthquake caused four deaths and widespread damage in Hawaii. Docks were ripped away, boats adrift, and waves reached parts of the U S mainland. Reports mention 100 villagers washed away near Ancud and a 10 foot wave striking Arauco with distress calls.

Danish Officials Report Suspected MIG Over Lolland

Danish home guard officers said a Communist MIG jet possibly violated Danish territory with a low level flight over Lolland Island. They noted a sighting last Friday near the same area as a U S Air Force C47 transport passed overhead and landed in East Germany after an emergency maneuver. Officials later said the observed aircraft were Danish jets, while witnesses described a MIG-like dive over Hyldtofte and Roeds port, with uncertainty about origin.
