Hire Now Campaign Initiated Across Indiana Offices

Boyd W. McKnight of the Indiana office of the Pennsylvania State Employment Service announced a focal Hire Now campaign to coordinate the national job drive. He will expand outreach to employers and seek cooperation from chambers, management, labor, veterans, and government officials to stimulate hiring nationwide. He cited improving economic trends and projected faster business conditions.

CHAMBERSBURG Pa AP A Franklin County jury found Lawrence C Zeger 45 former member of the Democratic State Committee guilty of political macing for the second time in two years On three of five counts the jury said he demanded from five Samuel G Dixon State Hospital employees in South Mountain Franklin County monthly payments of 5 to 9 to the Democratic organization He had previously been found guilty on all five counts in September 1959 but a retrial was granted He testified he did not demand payments but said the party would welcome voluntary contributions He was released on bond and his counsel sought a new trial

Pershing Test Fails in Missile Flight

CAPE CANAVERAL AP The Army does not expect a Pershing flight failure to delay testing. A 34 foot rocket was destroyed when the second stage failed to ignite during a Thursday night launch. It was the third failure in 16 launches. The missile aimed at a 250 mile target is part of a mobile 3 to 700 mile range system.

Moonshiner Given Term By Pittsburgh Judge

Robert Strothers, 42, of Pittsburgh, was sentenced by Judge William F. Cercone to six months on a contempt charge for striking state liquor control agent Eugene L. Barkley in the head on May 10 during a hearing in Allegheny County Criminal Court. He also received a two month sentence for violating liquor laws. Barkley was hospitalized with severe head bruises.
