The VFW Auxiliary of Post 581 met in Blairsville May 17 with 20 present. They planned coffee and donuts for veterans before Memorial Day parade, a noon dinner at the VFW Club, a parade float, store window decorations, four new members, donations to district and department president funds and the flag fund, a booth at the American Legion Fair June 12–16, a rummage sale August 31–Sept 1, door prizes awarded, and a variety show at the next meeting June 7.

Fourth Annual Mother and Daughter Banquet Held at Homer City Church
The Fourth Annual Mother and Daughter Banquet occurred Monday evening at Homer City Presbyterian Church. Approximately 170 mothers and daughters were served dinner by the Men's Excelsior Bible Class. Tables were decorated by the favor and decorating committee chaired by Mrs. Lloyd Elgin and aided by several volunteers. Candles, greens, and handkerchief umbrellas enhanced the decor. Judith Nipps provided organ music before dinner. Mrs. O'Hara Blaine presided as toastmaster and welcomed guests. Mrs. Robert Coles gave the invocation, with group singing led by Mrs. George Allison.
