Ex Lieutenant Governor Timothy L. Woodruff argues participation in politics strengthens civic duty and moral character. He cautions against party domination but says informed voters gain industry, ambition, and steady reputation, even in a competitive, wealth driven era.
Professor Mattucci of Mott Observatory argues a close relation exists between earthquakes and volcanic eruptions though distances and timing vary. He cites the earth’s crust fracturing under internal pressure as a shared mechanism triggering both surface eruptions and seismic events.

A Presbyterian elder for forty years and Civil War veteran of Hauptans battery, he supported temperance Prohibition. Funeral held at his residence with Rev E P Foresman and burial in Washington Church Cemetery.
Local notes list Mrs. Ella Thompson visiting Blairsville, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilson from Johnstown visiting Indiana relatives, and Prof. Gordon of the Normal School in Pittsburg for a Knights Templar conclave.
