Joseph R Grundy began as a wool porter in a Bristol mill 1882 1896 advancing through every wool manufacturing branch while influencing public affairs from borough to county. He joined Bristol Town Council 1896 1913 and later served as a U S Senator, active at Republican conventions and tariff revisions since 1897. He organized Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association 1909 and presided until his Senate appointment in 1929. He modernized the Bristol mill, funded a community building and high school, financed sewage and water works, and donated over 100000 for streets and improvements. He supported Pinchot in 1922, Coolidge in 1924, and shaped state politics, later aiding highway projects. He earlier worked in steel mills and held Amalgamated Association roles before leaving manual labor at 25.
