Marines Dead in Nicaragua Fight Report
Washington report states two hundred guerrillas attacked a Marine encampment in Nicaragua. Private Martin Jackson of Jacksonville and Private William F. Simon were wounded, Corporal A. J. Rausch also injured, and a dozen attackers were killed as Marines returned fire. Captain Buchanan enlisted in 1917 after graduating from the University of Illinois. his mother Mrs. G. B. Buchanan resides near Plainfield, New Jersey, with a wife and three children in Washington.

A Blairsville girl, after interviews and long police work, admits threats led her to falsely accuse her father of a crime. State Police report he attacked her on May 4 after luring her with a walk, slashing her throat with a knife, and washing blood from clothing before returning home. The girl was found later unconscious and treated at Latrobe hospital.

Jacob DeHaven a 37 year old Sagamore miner was crushed by a coal fall at the Sutter and Run mine. He was alone when the collapse trapped him, suffered multiple broken ribs and injuries to his arm and back, and is hospitalized in Adrian, Punxsytawney, in fair condition the morning after the accident.
