Pittsburg May 17 Frank N Hoffstot a millionaire was found not guilty of bribery by a jury which heard the case. The jurors were out about an hour. He was charged with bribery in connection with an ordinance naming six banks as city depositories. A conspiracy case previously ended with disagreement and he may face a new trial. Hoffstot testified in his own defense denying all bribery charges. He said he had no talks with James M Young about money to pay councilmen. Principal witnesses were Young and Charles Stewart a former councilman. Stewart testified to a long distance call to a man in New York he believed was Hoffstot about sending money to New York to be turned over to Stewart for councilmen.
Ridgway Pa May 17 fires rage across Forest County destroying large sawmills and tannery properties. Hilk Tanning loss estimated seventy one thousand dollars. Townships Kingsley Greer Howe see heavy damage amply described as fires threaten more housing and camps near Millville Lycoming reports indicate evacuations and gear left behind as crews fight the blazes along the Allegheny river and Tionesta creek.

Cleveland May 17 six patrolmen suspended by Safety Director Hogee after saloon raids were found guilty by the civil service commission. Their permanent discharge from the force follows the ruling.
