New York May 15 The schooner Avua sank after colliding with the Savannah liner City of Atlanta off Barne eat Light, three crew drowned, captain J C Machane and several crew members taken aboard the City of Atlanta which stood by until daybreak. The Avua, a 665 ton schooner owned by Carteret Ferry Co of Linoleumville, New York, operated between Maine and Bermuda.

Police in Des Moines hold Elmer Gibson aged 5 and Carl McCune 84 in connection with the murder of Erelyn Lee a Des Moines area girl abducted raped and slain. Le rtoy Wilson of Cherryhill township pleaded guilty to forging a ten dollar check at a Clly mor store on March Lith 1930. He faced six counts of fraud by checks and five counts of forging checks from Indiana merchants. six-month imprisonment for the first six counts was imposed, remaining sentences continued. Two Navy Flyers Rescued After Bomber Crash
Honolulu May 16 The steamer Hawaii rescued two crewmen of a Keystone bomber that crashed near Alenuihaha Channel between Maui and Hawaii while other pilots stayed with their planes through the night. A second wireless report from Washington said two army flyers were rescued from the water after the amphibian bomber failed to rise in rough seas. Three Navy patrol planes guided rescue ships as surface craft saved the men. The bomber’s crew and exact names were not disclosed.
