D L Winger assistant superintendent of county schools outlined a four step plan to consolidate township schools. He cited benefits and noted successes in Armagh and Brushvalley. A Rayne township vote approved consolidating Crops Rock Bottom Shields Kellysburg Thompson and Hawthorne into a brick modern school at Garbleton or Kellysburg. Total past year enrollment was under 80. Prof John Davis led the program with Winger presenting.

In Washington on May 14 the Senate funds committee probed a weekly paper named Politics which has lost $500 weekly since January while attacking Herbert Hoover. Editor Harry N. Price denied any candidate funding and said losses were borne by J. H. Hale of New York City. Price said Hale is well to do and once a prohibition agent, noting he would keep operating as long as Hale funds it. The paper often criticizes Hoover and praises others. Milo Luther of Clyde attended in town.

Tarbuck gets 10 to 20 years in Western Penitentiary
Dave Tarbuck of Whiskey Run, found guilty of second degree murder, was taken to the Western Penitentiary to begin a sentence of not less than ten years and not more than twenty years after Deputy Fred Bowserux escorted him this morning. Tarbuck shot Tony Bill in response to a knock on his door, committing Whiskey Run’s 28th murder since the town’s founding and the only one yet apprehended and convicted.

Charleroi Pa May 15 Corporal 8 A Shaffer of the State Highway Patrol saved two men from a burning overturned car. John Ravzik 26 and Andrew Svetz 24 of Donora escaped after Shaffer lifted the vehicle. Ravzik had a broken arm and internal injuries Svetz was slightly injured. Two Brownsville men were killed at the same spot two weeks ago.
