The Russian reply to Lord Curzon’s note demanding redress for hostile acts against British subjects and property in Russia arrived this afternoon before Leonid Krasin Krassin, who is reportedly bringing it by air from Moscow. The cabinet will likely wait until Thursday to decide on acceptance. Krassin is due in London tonight with Russia’s answer, amid reports Britain may seek arbitration. US consular agents press Chinese officials in Shantung to free American captives held by bandits near Lincheng. The measure requires an oath verified petition and notice to the district attorney, with a 10 day hearing window and authority to revoke parole. Red bug spray guidance urges central Pennsylvania counties to use nicotine and arsenate in apple orchards. Lime sulfur solution diluted to 1.008 aids disease control in fruit trees.
Harrisburg May 1. The State Department of Public Instruction announced 28 Pennsylvania prize winners in the National Safety Relay contest. Agnes Kelly of Scranton won first prize a gold medal and 15 dollars for students in grades six to eight for My Share in Making the Highways Safe. Samuel Goldstein of Pittsburgh won second prize a silver medal and 10 dollars. Twenty six third prizes included Lenore Adelman Naomi Berman and many others from cities across Pennsylvania. Prizes will be sent from national headquarters in Washington D C. The essay by Miss Kelly will be sent to Washington to compete for one of the three national prizes. The Teacher’s National Safety Lesson contest produced three top plans from Miss Wallie Shumaker Distinct Pennsylvania entries were forwarded with prize amounts up to 500 dollars and a trip to Washington for first place.
