New York May 12 Roy Sloane 26 once Columbia student and famed prison escapee was killed by shotgun fire in the Mad Dot boat club on Dykeman Street Police said four men fired and Patrolman John Peraglia rushed the injured man to Jewish Memorial Hospital where he died He was out on bail on gem robbery charges and was son of Anna Bogenholm Sloane a National Arts and Crafts Institute figure
Harrisburg May 12 Up state Secretary of Agriculture McSparran urged farmers not to sell eggs for less than two cents each and advised storing eggs if prices drop. He said storage can equalize production and build a steady trade, noting about two cents a dozen to store for ten months.
In Vienna on May 12 Prof Karl Lindner head of the Vienna Eye Hospital reports a accidental discovery may restore sight to blind people. Potassium hydrate used with an ophthalmoscope locates retinal openings and provokes inflammation that seals tears, potentially restoring vision.
Spain faced widespread anti religious violence as mobs attacked and burned churches convents and Catholic institutions. Martial law was imposed in Madrid Seville Cadiz and Alicante with troops deployed to hotspots including Guillena and Granada where clergy and nuns were evacuated for safety.
Ray Wilt an underage farm hand in Canton Ohio confessed to the hatchet slayings of his employer Edward B. Thomas and his wife Ethel after 12 hours of questioning. Prosecutor James E. H. Aungst said Wilt killed them to gain $100 a radio and their sedan. He was tracked to a friend’s home and arrested within 24 hours of the bodies found in a clothes press.
Charles Weaver of Ben Avon was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor. He waived a hearing before Squire Walter H. Jackson, was committed to the county jail in default of 500 dollars bail, after police accused him of driving between Fifth and Sixth streets at about 7 30 oclock Sunday evening and a physician confirmed intoxication.
Blain Short of the Department of Animal Industry investigated complaints from property owners about garden damage. He found four residents possessing unlicensed dogs and ordered their arrests. Named those arrested include Sam McCreary W R Renz Scott Byers and Barry Steele with fines and costs to be paid.

Miss Emma Lou Lightcap and Edwin Empfield Jr were married at St John’s Lutheran Church in Easton Saturday at 4 pm. The bride is the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mrs Lightcap, the groom son of Edwin Empfield Sr and wife. Attendants included sisters of the bride and a large bridal party. The ceremony was led by Rev F K Fretz with many relatives in attendance.

The First United Presbyterian Church and community extend sympathy to the Rev. McIlvaine and Mrs. McIlvaine on the death of their infant son at Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh this morning. The baby was born early Monday morning.

Harrisburg May 12 The 1794 Pennsylvania blue laws faced another House challenge as supporters of legalized Sunday baseball pushed the Denning bills for local option. The measure would allow Sunday play noon to six and shift referendums to municipalities. Advocates claimed six new votes, but opponents noted a 106 vote constitutional threshold and a 28 May adjournment deadline.
Harrisburg May 12. Appropriation bills reappeared on the House calendar after the assembly adopted a report setting May 28 as final adjournment. House and Senate committees expected to deliver omnibus measures for state aided hospitals and maintenance costs in coming days. The bill on the House calendar would allocate 10,778,310 to the Department of Property and Supplies for construction and improvements across state institutions. Welfare gets the largest share, including 2,379,500 for feeble minded institutions at Laurelton Selinsgrove Pennhurst and Polk and 8,348,000 for insane asylums at Allentown Danville Farview. Also 1,387,000 for state penal and correction institutions at Huntingdon Morganza Pittsburgh Munsey and Rockview and 330,100 for hospital purposes at Shamokin Blossburg and Philipsburg. Public Instruction receives 915,000 for normal school improvements and 175,000 for additional needs.
In Bly, on May 12, Billy Neu hart, age 14 known as the World’s Champion Bonebreaker, endures a life of multiple bone fractures. He has missed exams and left school after ten fractures since last September. His sister, his caregiver, is set to graduate and attend high school, complicating Billy’s own education prospects.
William Hilberry of near Dayton Pa faced charges of aggravated assault and battery and operating a Ford under the influence after a witness alleged he crashed into Genaro Brash then 10 on December 30, 1980. Hilberry posted 500 bail and awaits the June criminal term. The boy remained in Indiana hospital with serious back injuries.
Mrs. Esther C. Mosher aged 22 of Cleveland Ohio died in an Indiana hospital from a heart attack at 8 46 yesterday. She leaves husband Leon J. Mosher and daughter Mother Fay age six in Cleveland. Her mother Mrs Vernie Agey and two sisters Mildred and Frances Agey reside in Indiana. Funeral services with Rev J J McIlvaine are at the mother’s home Thursday at 2 pm and interment follows at Greenwood Cemetery. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Fairport New York.

Dr Frank A Lorenzo narrowly escaped death at Punxsutawney Hospital when an X ray unit delivering 83000 volts surged through him while taking photographs of Sara Louise Pantall's injuries after a Saturday morning car crash. He suffered a fore head burn at the hairline and bruises from being knocked to the floor as the 600 pound apparatus shifted.
Emily Hunt of Windsor and Reginald Crudge of Detroit married on the Ambassador Bridge linking the U S and Canada. The ceremony by Judge John D Watts followed Canadian refusal to recognize a Mexican divorce, forcing the couple to wed abroad before awaiting a visa to join Crudge in the United States.
