Homer City Man Dies in Prison Cell by Hanging
Homer City 32 year old Jack Braughler was found hanged in his Western State Penitentiary cell in Pittsburgh during a routine inspection. Serving a burglary and parole violation sentence, he was returned to prison on parole violation and later sent to the diagnostic center. He faced prior charges of larceny and receiving stolen goods linked to a car stripping ring in Homer City area and Lucernemines, with survivors including his widow, several children, and parents in Wilmington California.

Americans gain 1.18 million jobs in April record high
Washington AP reports the number of Americans employed rose to 65,012,000 in April, up 1,184,000 from March, with unemployment down 735,000 to 3,627,000. Commerce and Labor say spring gains in construction, hard goods manufacturing, and agriculture drive a rapid job recovery. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.3 percent from 5.8.

The U S Weather Bureau warned severe storms would affect parts of western Pennsylvania today with thunderstorms likely noon to 6 pm EST. WARREN Pa AP a 36 year old mother of four was killed Sunday when she fell from the scoop of an earth moving machine at a family gathering. Mrs Joseph Pillar of Tidioute was pronounced dead at Warren General Hospital. A sister in law Mrs Adam Bosko 31 of Youngsville who also fell suffered a possible back fracture and was admitted to the hospital. The women were at a family gathering at the farm home of Mrs Mary Pillar in Warren County. Several others were lifted in the scoop for photos before the tragedy.
