Hulda Wetzel, 26, of Pittsburgh and formerly Banks Township, Indiana County, died after a hit and run on the William Penn Highway near Murraysville while en route to her mother’s home for Mother's Day. Charles Thompson Jr of Wilkinsburg was treated for injuries after his car struck a telegraph pole in a loss of control. The fleeing driver is believed to have left the scene.

Blaze Destroys Ferrier Property in Homer City
Damage estimated at $1,000 after a morning fire gut the Ferrier property on Main Street Homer City. Firemen confined flames to the single story building preventing spread to nearby structures eight feet away. The shop of Thomas Cerranni, a shoe repairer, was totally destroyed though insurance listed on the building. Fire officials suspect a smoldering cigarette started the blaze. Portage fire also reports a later explosion linked blaze at Martin Realty Company building causing about $60,000 damage.
