Western Ohio and Kentucky will soon operate a dry feet patrol launch, a 40-foot craft reinstalled with mast and cabin in Pittsburgh. Altoona May 11 The Chromilite Special, vacant since Earl De Vore’s last race, will be driven by Speed Gardner of Pittsburgh this season. Gardner, previously a semi pro, buys the car and will compete in Altoona’s 200 mile International Classic on June 15, marking his rise to big time racing. Frank Cramer, owner, will not direct Gardner’s team, citing memories of De Vore. Gardner’s comeback follows a 1927 semi professional run at Altoona where he posted 108.0 mph in trials but faced mechanical issues in the main event. He secured the car by backing from a Pittsburgh sportsman, aiming to debut as a big time driver.

Harrisburg May 11 A construction program signed by Gov Fisher is launched by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways with a three day letting period for 88.69 miles of paving bids May 22 28 and 24 and 6.65 miles of grading and drainage for six bridges. When contracts are executed total highway length will reach 427.04 miles wider under construction with 388.08 paved and 88.96 miles of grading and drainage preparatory to paving. Last season 299.39 miles of paving under contract and winter work continued on 2.31 miles of grading and drainage. The May letting covers 28 counties with mileage by counties including Allegheny 7.60 Armstrong 0.60 Beaver 2.85 Berks 3.8 Blair 3.85 Bradford 0. ae Cambria 2.07 Clearfield 1.20 Centre 4. Delawar 4.23 Erie 7.3.82 Indiana 2.0 Lackawanna 0. Latrobe 0.8 Lehigh 0.8 Luzerne 0.78 Lycoming 1.57 Mercer 0.
