Pennington Held For Court On Manslaughter Charge
Hustret Attorney Samuel Stewart may present involuntary manslaughter charges to the grand jury against Commander John D. Pennington superintendent of the State Industrial School for Boys Huntingdon. Pennington was held in 1000 dollars bond. a coroner's jury linked tear gas exposure to the death of Daniel LaMaure of Philadelphia. Stewart also planned to present a charge against former deputy superintendent Samuel H. Washabaugh, dismissed after a state police probe. Two guards testified Pennington stood in the doorway as tear gas was fired into the cell block. LaMaure died last December 1 after barricading himself in his cell.
