Haiti faces severe hunger as rural areas rely on meatless soups and citizens struggle for staple foods. Rural districts depend on imports from the United States, with rice and beans remaining top needs. Food supplies, even with millions in aid, fail to ease the shortage amid rising prices.
In Washington the Inter American Committees formally approve a 34 million dollar annual program to tighten hemispheric economic relations amid a five month Haitian crisis.
