J Wilson Thompson Veteran Civil War figure dies at 83
J Wilson Thompson aged 83, a veteran mustered out after Civil War service and longtime Indiana official, died at his Railroad avenue home after a three week illness of pneumonia. Born March 30, 1845 in Rayne township, he served in the Union signal corps, then worked at A M Stewart hardware, later as deputy sheriff, humane agent, health and probation officer for the juvenile court over four decades. He was one of nine children of Maj Samuel H H Thompson, a prominent area resident.

Bodies of Flyers Recovered From Lake Erie Wreck
Wreckage of the airplane that plunged into Lake Erie near Buffalo was raised and two flyers identified as James M. Lapey of Buffalo and John Rosecrans of Milwaukee Harvard University student. Two Alverda Residents Hurt in Dynamite Explosion
Joseph Sloan age 20 and Lawrence Wilson age 44, both of Alverda, were treated at Spangler hospital after a dynamite blast in Alverda at the Carl and Coke Corp site. Sloan had severe arm and hand injuries and eye damage. Wilson sustained lacerations to the left side, arm, and face. Both were reported resting fairly well.
