Lessons in Forest Protection from Pennsylvania History
Beginning with the Province of Pennsylvania the state pursued fire protection for woodlands by policy of land purchase and a growing State forest fire organization. A million dollars in 1921 expanded towers, 700 miles of telephone lines, and about 3,000 wardens to detect and fight fires, while educating the public to prevent fires and protect forests.
