Purchasing power of farmer's dollar slips in Pa
Harrisburg May 7 The State Agriculture Department reported the purchasing power of the farmer's dollar fell 2 cents to 1.16 in the month ending April 13 from 1.18 on March 15 based on a 1909-14 dollar. Prices for staple products rose two points while prices received for major farm goods dropped three points. Wheat corn oats rye and soybeans rose 2 to 5 cents a bushel. Barley held steady while buckwheat fell 7 cents per bushel and hay rose to 1 a ton. Potatoes climbed 5 cents to 1.80 per bushel and apples fell 10 cents to 2.25 per bushel. Hog prices dropped 81.50 per hundredweight, offsetting gains in beef cattle sheep and lambs.
