Studebaker Corp today announces the 1947 Champion and a broader redesign described by president G. Hottman. The postwar car features wider passenger compartments and a combined fender line. A new two section propeller shaft replaces the old single shaft as part of the refreshed styling. About 24,000 first postwar cars were produced before a brief shutdown to bring out the 1947 units.

Mother's Day founder Anna Jarvis cited from Grafton WV roots
Anna Jarvis of Grafton West Virginia is identified as the founder of Mothers Day. After her mother's 1905 Philadelphia death she urged a church service at Andrews Methodist of Grafton, first held in 1907, with public services the next year. By 1910 Governor Glasscock proclaimed it, and four years later it became a national holiday. The photo shows a young Jarvis, now 82 and blind, in a West Chester sanitarium.
