Johnstown Teen Fatally Targeted By Auto Snippers
Louise Gaudig, 17, of Johnstown Pennsylvania, was near death in Cleveland Clinic Hospital after a head wound from an auto snipper attack. Detective say two shooters fired on girls in separate city sections, as Miss Geraldine Marko, 20, was lightly wounded nearby. Police detained occupants of a car at the scene while doctors prepared a blood transfusion to try to save Gaudig. A prior similar shooting occurred April involving Nina Palagye, 36, who was wounded by two men in an automobile.

Detour at Dias Road Adapts Homer City Route
A new detour is in effect on the Homer City to Brush valley Armagh road at Dias as ridge and approach work over Blacklick Creek continues. Drivers from Brushvalley to Armagh must use the Heshbon detour route. From Brushvalley to Heshbon the road is slag and from Heshbon to the William Penn Highway is a fair dirt road.

Four Are Sentenced Here By Judge Langham
Four defendants pleaded guilty in court yesterday morning before Judge J. N. Langham. Harry Miller fined $100 and costs for possessing intoxicating liquor. Stanley Dixon fined $300, costs, and 30 days in county jail for DUI. Roy Lambing fined $20, $25 restitution to owner J. M. Keeley, and 30 days in county jail for felonious entry and larceny of chickens. Tody Ragey fined $25, costs, and 90 days in county jail for receiving stolen goods knowing they were stolen.

Light contracts awarded for local air field lighting work
The Lightcap Electric Co. won the contract to install boundary lights obstacle lights and flood lights at the Indiana Airways field. Work includes 18 000 feet of cable 8 500 feet of No 10 wire and 7 strand lead cable plus two 1500 candle power flood lights and six large reflector lights. Green boundary lights at runways ends red obstruction lights north end and red hanger lights atop poles and buildings will be installed to guide landings and operations.

Bankers Murdered Pair Found Near Water Valley Home
W W Wagner president of the Bank of Water Valley and his wife were found murdered near their Water Valley home. Their bodies were hacked with an ax and Wagner was buried in a shallow grave 200 yards away after officers followed a blood trail. A struggle was evident in the house and police believe the killer attacked them and dragged the bodies away.

Five relief station thieves released in Pittsburgh
Five persons charged with stealing food and clothing from the relief station at St. Patrick's Church were discharged on the pastor Rev. James R. Cox's recommendation. Released were Buck Crouse, former boxer in charge of relief work, Anthony O'Donnell, Miss Della Malloy, Mrs. Elizabeth Wedsfoot, and Thomas Conley, all of Pittsburgh. O'Donnell said the supplies were given to him and the others by Crouse.

Teacher Dies In Heroic Train Tragedy In Gene seq Ill
Miss Helen Scott age 26 died while saving three children from a passenger train that struck a trestle where she and the group stood. She saved Edith Peterson 8 but two other children Beulah Peterson 7 and June Mason 8 were killed. Lester Peterson 11, Beulah’s brother, was among witnesses. Bandits Beat and Rob Woman in Confectionery Store
In Pittsburgh on May 5 two young bandits beat and robbed Mrs. Josephine M. Kelly in her confectionery, bound and left unconscious. She described attackers entering the kitchen as she counted money and prepared to close, noting a bite on the head before losing consciousness. Her son and daughter slept above the store as neighbors found her.

Freak windstorm wrecks buildings in East Pike area
Carlisle Crissman and Mrs. Jacob Lowman began repairs after a freak windstorm and tiny tornado crossed their two lots around four pm Saturday. The garage was lifted 12 by 16 feet, overturned, and thrown over 100 feet into a tree. Oak tops were torn from three trees and carried onto the national highway while an out house was lifted, carried over 600 feet, and flipped three times.

A community event with an open house at Th. diana County Memorial Hospital is planned for next Tuesday May 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
