Harrisburg continues a program to note license numbers and descriptions of every car brought in. The goal is to aid police in locating stolen motors and other vehicles, enhancing investigative capability across the city.
In Johnstown voters largely favored direct taxation to fund the sewer project while several wards rejected bonding. The Twelfth, Fourteenth, and Twenty-First wards gave zero or near zero support, with other wards recording only a handful of affirmative ballots.
Town weary of ongoing robberies contemplates hiring night guards to protect during sleeping hours. Mining company officials plan to employ a watchman to safeguard operations locally.
James W. Bennett of the Roanoke Times, the sole non relief commission member to cross the Atlantic, returns aboard the commission steamer Lynorim. He toured German-occupied Belgium visiting Ma lines, Dinant, Namur, Louvain, Liege, Brussels and Antwerp, noting famine lines, dignified faces amid poverty, and Belgians showing gratitude by touching the Stars and Stripes on the relief car.
