Capitalism Undersold Stassen at Chamber of Commerce
Harold Stassen told business leaders that capitalism is the most undersold system while socialism and communism are the most oversold. He urged American industry to better explain the capitalist system to workers to protect freedom and win the cold war, warning a third hot war could be avoided. He spoke to about 2500 delegates at the Chamber’s 38th annual convention, following a message from President Steinkraus.

Three Men Sentenced for Theft at Coal Mine
Thomas Burkett and Charles Paterchalk, both of Dilltown, received 8 to 16 months in the Allegheny County Workhouse with $100 fines plus costs and restitution for stealing 170 sticks of dynamite, electric caps, a blow torch and tools from Vanity Brothers Coal Mine. Emory Burkett of Luciusboro got six months and similar fines and restitution. All were arraigned after a Saturday hearing before Squire Thomas F. Murray Jr. in Indiana.

A cap pistol fired by two youngsters on a wagon shed caused a 5000 dollar fire at the Murray R. Cramer farm one and a half miles west of Penn Run at about 430 PM Saturday. Firemen arrived from Indiana Fire Department Company No. 2. Grain losses included 250 to 275 bushels of car corn 150 bushels of wheat 185 bushels of oats and 175 bushels of buckwheat plus a 100-gallon tractor fuel tank Fanned by a nearby spring water supply neighbors helped haul water to fight the blaze and some grain was saved. The shed housed the cap pistol near gasoline likely starting the fire.

Fatal Crash Near Saltsburg Claims Three McKees Rocks Youths
Details from Pittsburgh report two McKees Rocks youths Frans Maksin 21 and Paul Trieschock 23 died in a Saturday morning crash on Route 80 near Saltsburg.
