The Agriculture Department reports March farm prices at a record high for the fourth straight month with raw products up 2 percent from February. Retail beef rose 1.8 percent to about 2.19 a pound, while lettuce collapsed 35 percent. Dairy prices will see a 9 percent milk price increase.

Harrisburg reports say radiation venting continued at the Three Mile Island facility as officials stressed the meltdown risk was very remote. Gov. Thornburgh urged limited movement for children and pregnant women within five miles while residents fled the area.
United Airlines halted all flights through April 9 as machinists strike began at 12:01 a.m. EST. IAMAW Local 1487 at O Hare reports all 1100 afternoon shifts walked off. United says 60 percent of staff are union members and will honor picket lines while flights en route were expected to continue to destinations.
Washington sources say the Teamsters and trucking industry near a three year settlement worth about 30 percent in raise and benefits, slightly above Carter’s 7 percent annual guideline after exemptions. Officials warn key issues remain unresolved and a nationwide walkout could still occur if talks fail by midnight.
Len Weicker states that if he wins the Republican nomination for 1980 he does not expect Carter to be the opponent. He anticipates Senator Edward Kennedy or Vice President Mondale as the Democratic nominee with Jerry Brown as a fallback option.
Libyan troops fighting for Idi Amin reportedly pushed Tanzanians and Ugandan exiles beyond artillery range of Kampala after three days of shelling. Diplomats in Kampala reported retreating invaders, with Ugandan forces claiming counterattacks and captures, while Libyan command structures and troop numbers were cited in varying reports. Weather notes follow.
