Idle Dollars are coming out of hiding to fight unemployment. By Wednesday 9:00 PM pledges total 42849 with breakdowns by wards and precincts. Solicitors will press on to enlist more supporters, urging residents to pledge funds to boost repairs, improvements, and job creation.

Uniontown Pa. March 41. A ticket agent for West Penn Railways received a 25 cent reward for recovering a $1,100 ring left in a restroom by a Grafton West Virginia woman. The small reward contrasts with the large value of the ring.

The Indiana Board of Health announces Clean Up Week from April 11 to 17 with inspections by the Health Officer and citizen cooperation. The notice cites statewide public health gains from typhoid and diphtheria reductions and urges continued community effort to improve Indiana’s sanitation and health.

Harrisburg report shows Gov. Pinchot and State Treasurer Martin clashing over surety bond deposits held by closed banks. The governor accuses Martin of mudding the water and shifting blame as Schnader pursues collection after the bonding companies failed to withdraw cancellation notices.
Torrest Mallick, 24, a night mail pilot for United Airlines, was found dead in the cockpit of his plane after it crashed in a field between Bedford and Northfield. A fog and driving rain were blamed for the accident. Farmers who heard the engine and then the crash found the flyer strapped in the seat. Mallick likely died instantly.
One hundred fifty two names will be added to the Pennsylvania railroad roll of honor tomorrow. Veterans from across the system will retire after 40 or more years of service. Notable locals include Samuel J. Buck car inspector of Cresson and Frank Fry conductor on the Conemaugh division from Seward.
A jury in Civil Court returned a verdict for the defendant in the trespass action of Norgal Fitzhonts of Indiana against Marko Lanich of McIntyre. The May 18 1928 collision at School street and Oakland avenue prompted claims of 185 for car damage and 750 for personal damages, with Lanich counter-claiming 140. Judge S L Reed presided in Cambria County.
