Harrisburg March 29 The State Highway Department announced a low bid of 226688.99 by C W Good Inc Lancaster to repave from curb to curb the Perkiomen Avenue bridge in Reading after trolley track removal. Several other low bidders were listed for county and state projects including Frank L Grant West Chester James McGraw Co Philadelphia H R Miller Co Lancaster Ferguson and Edmonson Co Pittsburgh and Bortz and Bortz Coal Co Stoneboro for various road and bridge works totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Anne O Hara McCormick, a New York columnist and UN delegate, warned that Russia lacks will to fight and could back down to threats. She argued fear of communism fuels American actions and urged the United States to act boldly as defender of democracy and UN sponsor amid the Greece crisis.

Second Lt. Donald D. Trimble, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Trimble of Indiana, will serve as bombardier on a B-29 mission with the 307th Bombardment Group. From MacDill Field in Tampa they head to Salina Kansas for simulated long range missions over midwestern cities during Army Week April 4 to 12. Trimble entered the AAF in 1943 and earned the Army Medal for eight Pacific combat missions.
