PORT WASHINGTON N Y March 29 INS Harold Vanderbilts $60000 flying yacht was among yachts destroyed or damaged in a fire that swept the Purdy Boat Corporation plant. Fire damaged or destroyed a dozen boats as flames fed by lumber paint and varnish raced through the boathouse. The Vanderbilt boat noted for water and air travel at 116 miles an hour was among the losses. Port Washington suffered a blackout as electrical wires burned. A short circuit was suspected as the start of the blaze.
