Sam begins the Aw for the 1919 season of money big. The demand is terrific and the field is large. He plans a gang plow operation to cover every acre and raise the funds needed for munitions industry support. If Uncle Sam fails to raise dollars this season, many farmers and workers will suffer. The piece hints at Ford and a film promotion to come, continuing from page one with a restaurant discussion.

Casualty List Totals 785 with 73 Names Added

Today's casualty totals show 785 Pennsylvanians affected. The list names 73 individuals including Lieutenant James H. Wiscus of Greensbury and Private Joseph E. B. Chappel of Carnegie, with entries for disease deaths and various levels of injuries. Additional notes include Winthrop C. Manning of Altoona and Ferdinand Fickenscher of Pittsburgh, among others.

Operators For Mines Face Reduced Orders In 1919

Article notes operators have met needs from fall stocks leading to fewer orders and a drop in mine output. From Nov 1 1918 to Mar 8 1919, 62 million tons less mined than the prior 18 weeks and 31 million tons less than the same period a year earlier. February production fell as a percent of full time output.

Harriburg March 29 A call was issued to mine operators and inspectors of Pennsylvania by E F Button chief of mines to resume the mining methods that prevailed before the war. Inspectors are urged to aid in the work and are praised for wartime efforts. Button notes casualties were lower than in some peacetime periods when operations were normal.

Volunteers enlistment drive gains from discharged troops

The article notes volunteers will largely come from recently discharged troops after civilian leave as they return to Army life. It predicts a boost to recruitment with dopkell incentives and notes officers, about 16 to 12 per 1000 men, will be sent overseas from Camp Meade to train and organize replacements in Germany and concentration camps on arrival, replacing officers eligible for discharge.

Reunion to Honor Indiana Normal Alumni and War Heroes

Indiana Normal plans a reunion with J Woog Clark clerk of the U S court and secretary of the board of trustees present. Dr William M Davidson Pittsburgh schools superintendent will be an honor guest. Alumni, graduates in Allegheny county, and war enlisted members will attend. Six alumni made the supreme sacrifice and Capt C C Meblain received the Distinguished Service Cross from Gen Pershing.
