Sadat and Begin Seek U.S. Aid for Peace Treaty

Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin urged Congress for loans and grants to back the new Middle East peace accord. Unemployment in Indiana County reached 8.3 percent in February the highest since February 1964. BES data show 3,300 of 39,300 in the labor force sought work. January was 7.6 percent. Local rates varied with Punxsutawney 11 percent Kittanning 10 Johns town 9.8 Pittsburgh 6.7 and State College 5.7 percent. The national rate was 6.4 percent and the state 7.5 percent.

Emergency Declared After Nuke Plant Pump Breaks

At Three Mile Island a water pump failed causing radiated steam to vent before a seal, prompting a general emergency. No injuries or dangerous outside radiation detected. reactor automatically shut down and the other unit was already offline for refueling. Metropolitan Edison and state police monitored the scene as traffic was controlled.
