Widow Vinla Liuzzo Slain After Selma March

Vinla Liuzzo, 39, of Detroit, wife of Teamsters Local 247 official Anthony Liuzzo Sr, was shot to death Thursday in Alabama while returning from Selma to Montgomery after transporting civil rights marchers. She had traveled south with a small group from Wayne State University to join the march. Liuzzo, a mother of five, described as bright and active, left a cabin surprise for her writing work in Michigan and had shown commitment to the civil rights cause. Her husband recalled her determination to act, saying she believed in people of all races. Her children and relatives recount her as loving, ambitious, and devoted to helping the movement.
