New York City's 3 percent sales tax will be extended to include certain commercial services to fund pay boosts for teachers and city employees. The plan, agreed by the Board of Estimate, covers auto repairs laundry and linen supply garage and building services radio and television repairs real estate management and some banking and business operations. Officials expect the expanded tax to yield about 15 million dollars annually and raise teachers' salaries by up to 450 dollars a year and city employees by up to 250 dollars annually.
