ISALTSBURG NATIVE JOHN A. EWING 79, a pioneer Colorado mining attorney and founder of the Colorado Bar Association, died in Denver after a February LA accident. Born March 26, 1856 in Salisbury PA, he moved to Colorado in 1870, began practice in Leadville 1881, later opened a Denver office in 1905, and served as state bar president in 1904. He leaves a daughter in Denver, a sister in New Kensington, and four brothers in Pittsburgh.

Harrisburg March 26 An INS report says the Pennsylvania Senate faced a 4 20 p m vote on discharging the constitutional revision bill from a Republicans controlled committee after a surprise motion by Senator Cavalcante. Democratic support was uncertain as Lt Gov Kennedy sided with delay breaking a 29 23 vote. The Ruth bill would set a May 14 special election for delegates to a convention starting June 4 with a November referendum on the proposed new constitution. Governor Earle urged expeditious action but offered no fixed compromise, while a 87 member committee was named to study changes for the convention. Meanwhile the House passed the Achterman bill shifting inheritance and mercantile tax duties to the Revenue Department, as Ruth warned of loss of federal relief funds without tax measures.
