MUNSAN Korea AP Korean truce negotiators sealed a news blackout on prisoner of war talks as they work toward an armistice. Brig Gen William P Nuckols UN spokesman said results will be published if any and the secrecy may nudge negotiators toward private compromises away from propaganda glare.
Indiana Municipal Band proceeds with its second concert at Manos Theater under conductor David McNaughton while talks on POW repatriation stall. Allies and Reds clash over neutral inspectors at ports, with no decision on Russia’s role. The sixth annual Merchandise Fair at the State Teachers College Indi ana opens Wednesday March 26 at 1:00 p m in Waller Gymnasium. It runs to March 27 closing at 9:00 p m with free samples and prizes. Attendance reaches about 10 000 students and local businesspeople. Displays are run by sophomore to senior business education students from 38 local firms. Freshmen assist at booths.

Night clerk Leland White saved many by warning occupants as the blaze began around 3 a.m. at the St. George Hotel. a room 312 occupant died and another is critically burned. Police and investigators refrained from determining the cause.
Washington dispatch reports that a proposal to invite General Dwight D. Eisenhower to testify on the administration's foreign aid program fell in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee after Gruenther spoke in support. Sen. McMahon lost a vote and several backers appeared lukewarm, noting Eisenhower's potential testimony would be cumulative given Gruenther's broad grasp of European defense. Some backers still welcomed Ike if he chose to testify.
Blairsville resident Daniel Sowers dies at 98 after a long upholstering career. Born December 30, 1653, in Brush Valley, his passing notes the town’s age and local history. Mrs Elias Learn and her husband, aged 88 and 91, will observe their 70th wedding anniversary at their farm home near Cookport. Learn was born on Sept 12, 1862, and has never lived elsewhere. The couple plans a quiet family celebration on their birthday.
Naples reports the Southern Europe Headquarters of Allied Naval Forces was formally opened by chief of staff Rear Admiral H H McLean. The unit, under Admiral Robert B Carney, comprises officers from the U S S S French Italian and British navies with liaison officers from Greece and Turkey joining the staff.
Four year old Mary Ann Church survived a wilderness rescue after sister Kathy and cousin Steven Kennedy, both five, died from exposure near a boarded up summer resort in Nicolet Forest. Washington AP CIO President Philip Murray rejected Defense Mobilizer Charles E Wilson calling him biased and uninformed and refused a meeting on the steel wage dispute. Wilson, returning from Key West talks with Truman, aimed to push wage-price peace talks while wage board proposals urged a 17 cent rise and benefits. Murray said no constructive result would come from meeting with Wilson which would ignore wage board findings and push industry dictated terms. Three gunmen held up an armored car outside Danvers National Bank, fleeing with about 600000. The truck from U S Trucking Corp was stopped on U S Route 1. Driver Lawrence Johansen said the loot came from multiple bank pickups in north shore communities. The trio fled in a black 1950 Buick sedan through Danvers Square amid traffic. Patrolman Noonan reported a rapid exit as the bandits headed south.
Richard Jenkins of 1105 Philadelphia Street on parole from a workhouse term for burglary was held for trial today in four Indiana break ins. The 28 year old, married, appeared before Justice Thomas F. Murray and was returned to county jail on a charge of receiving stolen property. Burglary and larceny charges were cropped. Jenkins had served time for burglarizing Heilwood school in 1948. Butler parole officer attended the hearing.
Indiana County draft board orders 11 young men to report by 6:30 AM April 3 in Room 314 at the Indiana Theater Building for induction. Attorneys for Theodore Buchs holz of 298 Station avenue Indiana filed a motion for a new trial in Indiana County court three days after a jury convicted Buchholz on a two count indictment. Lawyers Earl R. Handler and Thomas S. Barber seek retrial for the merchant. The jury of seven women and five men found the 4 year old Rugby holt guilty of aggravated assault and other offenses against Edward Kaczkowski a 16 year old SPQ freshman from Springdale Pa.
