Overheated furnace causes morning fire at 1034 Church Street
Flames from an overloaded furnace at J A H Longwill home on 1034 Church Street damaged the house and contents estimated at 35 000 dollars or more. The blaze spread from cellar to attic along hallways and stairs injuring occupants on the second floor including Cordelia Kline and Mrs Ida Treese who fled with their child in night attire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after the structure suffered extensive woodwork and furniture damage while insurance will cover most losses. A separate late night fire near Seven Baker Bros storage barn yielded only a small pile of rubbish and was quickly doused.

Shoplifter Arrested Here In Local Store
A 48-year-old Coral woman was arrested by borough police in a department store yesterday morning on shoplifting charges. She pleaded guilty at a later arraignment before Justice Walter H. Jackson and was held for court with $400 bail posted by a Coral merchant after merchandise valued at $4 was found in her bag. Police noted she had $41 in cash and a passbook showing her family had $1,357 in an Indiana bank savings account. the family has been aided by the county emergency relief board. The woman, said to be the mother of seven, was described as of foreign extraction.

Two Injured In Car Crash On Benjamin Franklin Highway
A 16 year old Romaine Mack of Whitestown and Mrs A H Cowles of Sewaren NJ were injured in a crash on the Benjamin Franklin Highway Rast Pike extension district. They were taken to Indiana Hospital for treatment and questioning. Mack suffered shock a fractured ankle and other injuries while Cowles had severe lacerations to the right wrist and shock. A report said the Mack girl was struck by a car driven by Cowles and the driver was injured when the car hit a pole. The crash occurred about 10 345 a m.
