Chicago on March 25. racketeers plan a legal defense fund to aid five alleged kidnappers facing trial. The fund targets the case aided by the “Big Six” and opposition seeks lighter sentences. Col Robert I Randolph of the Secret Six vows a larger fund to counter the racketeers.
Robbers struck Kittanning Henry Shaffer Lumber Company and Harry Fox's store on Woodward Avenue. Police say they had no clue on Monday and spent about three hours inside the Central building, ransacking every room. They found money likely the motive as small items were taken and boxes broken open.
A list of Indiana business visitors to Alverda includes D. EK. Martin a civic figure, Blair Adams a Punxs Autawney attorney in court, James White former County Home superintendent now in Coalport, and County Parole Officer Bert Roofe at Morganza Reform School. Letters found point to self inflicted death pact and family notes outline disposal of bodies. The couple had fled amid bigamy charges, leaving messages for relatives as investigators linked their fate to months of international search. Local troopers traced Watzl, who had earlier visited Cleveland and Vienna for research.
Police investigate the disappearance of Dr. Watzi after he burned his car to conceal his whereabouts. Mrs. Watzi requests river search but there are no traces of her missing husband. He was doing chemical analyses for the Philadelphia water bureau at the time.
The Prothero lands suffered damage from the B P highway relocation. The case remains in trial this morning with Judge Marion D Patterson of Blair County presiding as the trial judge.
