Ohio Court Rules Use of State Funds for Turnpike Plan

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that State Highway Department funds may be used to plan turnpikes after a protest by State Auditor Joseph T. Fergusot over an $800,000 transfer to the Ohio Turnpike Commission. The court upheld the transfer as legal and the turnpike law constitutional for this fund. The Turnpike Commission, created last year, can issue bonds to finance toll roads and repay a $600,000 loan from bond proceeds. It seeks a Northern Ohio route to link with the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Judge Burn AFL Action Ends Meat Company Boycott

Reduced Truck Weights Sought For Rural Roads

Harrisburg March 23 A plea to cut truck weight limits on township roads was presented to the State Highway Planning Commission by H A Thomson secretary of the Pena State Association of Township Supervisors. He urged substantially lower limits than the current 45 000 pounds on state highways and condemned the allocation of state funds to second class townships while first class areas receive far more. The commission conducted hearings across the state to gather ideas for a long range highway program.
