Break Ground For Vet Hospital Saturday

Altoona plans a civic celebration Saturday to break ground for a new veterans hospital. First spadefuls will be turned by Robert Laws, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and Harry R Harr Jr age 5 of Hollidaysburg. Harry’s father was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Two Sisters Die In Same Chair

In Pittsburgh on March 28 two spinster sisters aged 78 and 75 died within 15 hours of each other while sitting in the same rocking chair. Emily Tate died of pneumonia and Mathilda, who nursed her, was found dead of a heart attack.

Twins Born To Walking Mare At Hereford Manor Farm

Arkansas Lady, a six year old Tennessee walking mare, gave birth Saturday at Hereford Manor Stock Farm to twin colts. Stockmen say twins among horses are as rare as quads or quints among humans and report both mother and foals are doing well.

Recreation Institute to be held in Indiana March 24 25

A training specialist from the National Recreation Association will conduct a two day recreation training institute in Indiana on Wednesday and Thursday March 24 and 25. The event is sponsored by the Agricultural Extension Service of Pennsylvania State College in cooperation with the Indiana County Agricultural Extension Association. Sessions occur Wednesday and Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church with the evening session at the Laboratory School gymnasium at the Indiana State Teachers College.

Aged Vestal Man Drowns in Flood Return

In Vestal New York a 60 year old man named George Russell drowned when he returned through flood waters to save his possessions. Russell was reportedly the first flood fatality in the submerged South Central New York area and was later found by friends who had ferried him to the house and returned to retrieve him.
