Hammond Ind March 23 law enforcement spread a Calumet region dragnet for Lester Simpkins after he fatally shot probation officer Lucille Myers when questioned about welfare of his nine children. Believed to have died by his own hand, Simpkins, a Valparaiso University graduate and civil engineer by training, had not worked recently and supported his family by sporadic insurance sales.
New York dispatch reports Arthur B. Lewis former Utah State Senator and the "mystery man" in Edith May Burton's life testified in the trial of Harry W. Cowan who is charged with murdering Misa Burton and then shooting himself. Prosecutors argued Cowan's jealousy of Lewis spurred the crime and the suicide attempt.
