Death by own action in Trant case shocks Reading

In Reading Pa March 22 coroner Seidel held an inquest into the death of 21 year old Kimer M Prataman found shot before Mabel Treat 17 who he had pursued. Letters found showed he declared Trant had threatened him with a pistol. Jury ruled death by own action believing Prataman wrote the letters while insanely jealous to influence public opinion after Rejected marriage proposal.

New Ritual Adopted by Order of Independent Americans

William A. Pike announces that the state board awarded first prize to William T. Kerr of Pittsburg for a new ritual to be used in future ceremonies. The 9 member committee praised the work, hailing the ritual as not surpassed by any modern order and focusing on immigration naturalization and public school questions. The Order claims patriotic aims and a total state membership near 4,000.

Forcet all New York Life Annual Election Law

Albany reports a legislative motion to force a November 15 1906 election for all domestic mutual life insurers directors and trustees delaying future elections. Proxies prior to September 15 will be invalidated and inspection of the vote to be overseen by the state department of insurance. The bill aims to postpone elections, reassign terms, and require officers to be chosen after reorganizing elections.

Wreck Driver Lively Under Inquest In Canon City

Denver report recalls Frank Lively operator for Adobe wreck case where naps and missed relief led to disaster. Dispatcher Witte twice promised relief and failed to send men, Lively slept, instrument tick woke him, and the train passed within ten feet. Inquest adjourned pending Lively testimony in Canon City.

More Fraud Unearthed New York Shippers Charged

The Inter State Commerce Commission reports persistent underbilling and misrepresentation of railway freight from New York and eastern points. An investigation and hearing are set for Friday March 23 at 10:30 a.m. in United States Court rooms, New York, with expectations of new fraud developments and possible forced rebates from published tariff rates.
