McCreary Co Seeks Rubber Relief to Save Jobs

McCreary Tire and Rubber Co of Indiana Pennsylvania warns Senator Duff that reduced rubber supplies from the National Production Authority threaten to destroy the firm. The plant can operate only two days weekly, may lose skilled workers, and was cut from seven to two production days. Telegrams from customers amplify the impact. Martin Selected to Succeed McCabe as Fed Chairman

Chevy Chase Trio Ordered Held For Criminal Court

A Chevy Chase mother Frances Gullace and her son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Frances Gullace were ordered held for the next term of criminal court after a preliminary hearing before Justice of the Peace Walter Jackson of Indiana. They face charges of selling alcoholic beverages without licenses following raids by state county and liquor control board officers. All three defendants were released on $500 bond pending the next court term.

Memorial Park Plaque Approved by Local Legion and VFW

Indiana County Legion councils representing ten posts voted to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars in placing a bronze World War II memorial plaque in Memorial Park Indiana. The plaque commemorates county men who died serving the country. It will be unveiled May 80 after a parade and related activities.

Snow Strikes Indiana County Again

Winter returned for a curtain call in Indiana County with 3 to 3.5 inches of snow in parts since yesterday morning. Heavyest in north and east areas. south saw more rain than snow. Route 422 and 22 east were plowed last night and again this morning. Icy spots remained on high points. four snow plows and ten cindering wagons with about 50 men operated, keeping all roads open but slick in places.

14 Killed As Doncaster England Rail Wreck

A British Express train derailed near Doncaster in Yorkshire, killing 13 adults and a baby and injuring about 20. The locomotive and most cars remained on track while nine coaches left the rails, smashing into a brick bridge pier as rescuers worked to reach casualties. Ambulances rushed to the scene and 13 seriously hurt were reported.
