Fire yesterday destroyed a $30,000 barn and 50 tons of hay and grain on the John E. Cornwell farm one mile west of West Chester Pennsylvania. Cornwell saved his cattle four horses but four calves a combine and other farm machinery were lost. The Cornwell barn was among the largest in Chester County.

Warren police say a bad check ring operated in northwestern Pennsylvania led to the arrest of three Venango County residents. John Henry Hutchinson of Oil City and Mr and Mrs Williard Hutchinson of Rouseville face charges of obtaining money under false pretense. bail set at 500 each for a March 27 hearing. The group allegedly defrauded merchants of about 46000 by passing checks drawn on Ellwood City Franklin and Oil City, with cashed checks reported in Warren Du Bois Corry Meadville Union City and New Castle. Further investigation continuing.
The State Health Department begins a $4,000,000 school health program experiment in 17 Lycoming County schools. Two rats per school test diet effects on growth with one cage fed ground wheat and milk and the other a soft drink and corn cereal. Dr. Norris W. Vaux unveiled the project citing undernourishment evidence from state health exams.
Dr. Vaux explains the four week experiment compares rats on a deficient diet with those fed a proper diet. The goal is to demonstrate how essential nutrients influence physical development and health, offering a lasting lesson from firsthand observation.

Wil ford Jenkins of McKeesport Pa, a 23 year old Negro, waived extradition in Brooklyn felony court on a kidnapping charge after a 22 year old McKeesport girl said she was abducted. Arrest followed discovery of the captive in a Brooklyn apartment after a trip that included Pittsburgh Wilmington Del Philadelphia and New York. McKeesport police chief Kreiling and Magistrate Fagan were involved. extradition to Pennsylvania planned once papers are prepared.
