Improvements for Blairsville Advance Across Rail Line
Reports from the Pennsylvania railroad engineering department show last year’s new work and plans for this year across the Blairsville area. On the Pittsburgh division, major grade and alignment revisions covered about 14 miles from Lang Hollow to Bolivar. Double tracking and new bridges modernize the Conemaugh line, including a 760 foot double track tunnel near Bow station and eliminations of Blairville crossings planned for summer. Four tracks between Beatty and Southwest Junction and a new four mile Beatty to George line, plus a second track to Southwest Junction, shift passenger and through freight away from the Donohoe tunnel. Yard progress includes Hollidaysburg’s upbound classification yard and Pitcairn’s gravity yard becoming partially in use.
