Harrisburg March 16 The senate adjourned to meet Monday night next. A large number of bills from committees promise extensive work next week. Mr McNichol of Philadelphia introduced a bill creating a three member Water Supply Commission appointed by the Governor for four years to study state water needs and regulate conservation purification and distribution. No letters patent may be issued until the commission approves. Commissioners would earn 3000 annually and an engineer 2500 and a clerk 1200. The bill carries 40000 for implementation and was sent to the finance committee then favorably reported to the senate. It will be read the first time Monday night. In the house a minimum teacher salary bill and the Cook eminent domain bill were reported from committee. The warrants service bill for deputy constables was reconsidered and referred to municipal corporations.
J F Cordova former South River Methodist pastor found guilty of assault and battery against his wife in New Brunswick New Jersey. Evidence shows he hurled a glass cup and kitchen utensils during a quarrel over Julia Bowne with whom he eloped. He faces up to two years in prison. Julia Bowne remains in jail as a witness but may be released to her father's home.
The Pennsylvania supreme court sent the case of Samuel Greason and Mrs. Kate Edwards back to Berks county court for continuance. Both have faced the death watch for two years after the 1901 murder of John Edwards. Applications for commutation by Miles, Obey, Jackson, and Elijah Johnson were denied. Remaining cases on the calendar were continued.
Lieutenant Francis Boone, recently convicted by court martial, tried to flee Vancouver Barracks in Washington. Sentries opened fire, inflicting two serious wounds, one to the head and one to the shoulder. He lies in a debilitated state with blood poisoning feared as reports say he sought death by drawing fire.
Thomas E Pepper, a 59 year old millionaire whisky magnate from Kentucky, and Grace Appleby of Providence R I, 29, were married last night in the Arcus Hotel parlors. They plan to seek forgiveness from the Applebys in Providence before beginning life together.
