New York March 14 Nineteen persons killed and sixteen seriously injured in a tenement fire at 106 Allen Street. Many bodies burned beyond identification. twenty families or 140 residents housed above the paint shop. Firemen and police conducted numerous rescues amid scenes of horror as residents jumped from windows.
Latrobe officials say work to extend from Derry to Blairsville and Latrobe to Greensburg begins May 1 with aim to connect Blairsville to the main Pennsylvania Railroad line. The project attracts strong local support as Blairsville’s limited rail options promise solid investment. Also noted are Blairsville dog show winners owned by Fred Jamison and Mr Furnee with a Collie pup taking first prize.

From St. Petersburg dated March 14 the report says Kuropatkin with about 100000 men has reached Tie Ling. He is building hastily fortifications to slow the Japanese advance while reorganizing scattered forces. Marshal Oyama is not yet in a position to press a vigorous assault and may need to reform his lines.
London dispatch reports no confirmation of optimistic peace talks from Washington. Diplomats say they have no information on an early end to hostilities and doubt any firm settlement date exists, with only the Czar possibly knowing when peace might come.
Birmingham dispatches report Lord Lansdowne received a French note via M. Delcasse, based on M. Compard’s report from St Petersburg. The Post notes that communications between London Berlin and Paris seek a path to end the Manchuria crisis amid rising tensions.
An audience bound cabinet seance by Magician Keeny ends in a dramatic escape as doors fly open bells play instruments and Keeny is reportedly freed by an unseen force. The act draws crowds at Library Hall on Friday night March 17 with tickets on sale at Fall’s Wagons. Also advertised are Bramer wagons and 16,000 rolls of new wallpaper from E W Griffith’s store, open evenings until 8:30 through April 1.

T C Hood of South Third Street reached age ninety as relatives gathered at the home of his son in law and daughter J A Findley’s residence. Mrs Hood attended the event and was only a few years younger. Hood, who had long shaved himself, was visited by a barber for the first time prior to the birthday.
South Side leads Old Boys two wins in three meetings this season and will clinch the championship with a win next game. Old Boys just edged by South Side in a close prior matchup and aims to repeat. Buffalo Germans, amateur world champs, are in Pennsylvania as Babs of Sharon beat them 48 to 81 while Germans edged Butler 34 to 31. Beanor boys from Willett tied Elderton 19 in a tight Saturday contest. Bolivar fell 9 to in a second loss of the year at Irwin’s brick town on Saturday.
March 14 reports a gas explosion and fire at the Jacob Bittzer home injuring Mrs. Amalia Sina and others. Bittzer, a telegrapher, was rescued in serious condition as the Hopkins residence nearby burned. Gas leak traced to a street main led to gas following a service pipe into the cellar. Mrs Bittzer leaves four children. Hopkins family includes a husband and seven children.
Ridgeview Park Association directors met at the park with eight of nine present. They fixed dates for annual meetings including a Pentecostal camp from July 11 to 20 led by Rev John W McIntyre, a Quanutauqua Assembly from July 28 to August 16, and a Blairsville District camp from August 18 to September 4. The season forecasts strong demand for cottages and growth at Ridgeview Park.
