President Carter halted in Cairo to brief President Anwar Sadat inside the VIP lounge at the airport on progress toward a peace treaty with Israel. He said good progress was made and pledged that the effort would not fail after meetings with Egyptian and Israeli leaders.
President Carter, at Ben Gurion airport, says Egypt must reply after progress on key issues while Begin praises real gains. Violence flares as shells hit northeast Israel from Lebanon and Arab riots continue in the West Bank during the final phase of the Mideast mission.
In Harrisburg a House Transportation Committee narrowly approved a 6 percent sales tax on the wholesale price of gasoline 12-11 with Republicans backing the measure and Democrats opposing it. The plan would be passed on to the full House along with proposed increases in truck registration fees.
Regency Mall hosts an art demonstration titled Learn to Paint Landscapes using simple techniques March 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event invites aspiring artists to explore landscape painting basics in a guided session.
William Brock former Tennessee congressman and senator told the Raymond L. Lee Public Affairs Forum at IUP that the current House and Senate have changed rapidly for the worse.
