The New York Times reports James J. Wadsworth the permanent deputy U S representative to the United Nations is being considered for ambassador to Austria. He would succeed Llewellyn E. Thompson Jr. as Thompson moves to the Soviet post. Bohlen shifts to the Philippines. Wadsworth, a Republican, has served under Truman and Eisenhower and was born June 12, 1905 in Groveland New York, son of the late Senator James Wadsworth. He has a family farm near Geneseo in upstate New York.

Three Bomb Scares Hit Big Planes

Yesterday and last night three major airlines searched 32 planes across 10 cities in the East Midwest and South after anonymous threats. No bombs found. about 800 passengers faced delays up to an hour. Trans World Airlines conducted 28 searches in four hours at New York area airports and Newark with six planes diverted to alternate airports.

Folk dance festival notes telephoned threat

A telephoned warning disrupted plans for a folk dance festival linked to American Airlines and Charleston officials. A Boston to New York flight was checked after a call claimed dynamite was placed on a plane. The Bureau of Old Age and Survivors Insurance warns that many disabled workers have not applied for protections under new disability provisions. Police said a mailed box of chocolates sent to blues singer Dinah Washington at Zardi's contained glass slivers and a note threatening goodbye. Mrs. Ann Moore who bit a chocolate alerted authorities. postal inspectors joined the probe as detectives pursue the sender, “Yasha.”

Detroit viewers watched surgeons repair the heart of Harlow Wever 23 at Grace Hospital. WWJ TV cameras captured the opening of the chest cavity and exposure of the heart muscle as Dr James Blodgett described the steps.
