Rail workers refuse strike ban in Ohio and Indiana

Defiant Toledo and Elkhart railroad workers refused to end the strike blocking the New York Central main line from Cleveland to Chicago. About 1,800 workers idle at Elkhart and 500 in Toledo shouted against orders to return to work. Three brotherhoods had called off the strike earlier under Federal Court orders, with service resuming on roughly half the struck line as talks continued.

Eisenhower sweeps New Hampshire primary victory early

In Manchester Eisenhower dominates the first nation wide primary, winning all 14 Republican delegate races and the popular vote. Kefauver defeats Truman in the Democratic contest and also takes all 12 Democratic delegates. Final unofficial tallies show Eisenhower 46,497 among Republicans and Kefauver 26,147 versus Truman 16,298 in the Democratic race.

Bus collision in Bahia leaves 33 dead and 40 hurt

In Tucano Bahia a truck carrying drought refugees collided with a bus. The disaster killed 33 people and injured 40 others according to press dispatches. The interior town lies in Bahia state in Northeast Brazil.

Washington 71 The Pentagon’s custodians of military secrets winced as Rear Admiral John B. Moss testified at a Senate subcommittee hearing on a hush hush guided missile. Sagamore Driver Hospitalized After Route 80 Crash

Edward McNeely, 27, of Sagamore, was injured when his car left Route 80 two miles north of Indiana and struck a tree. He was taken to Indiana Hospital with a deep neck laceration and facial cuts. State Police said bright oncoming headlights blinded him at 11 15 p m and he lost control. damage estimates were not yet available.

Three Local Girls Hurt In Smashup On Water Street

Three Indiana girls were injured when a driver blinded by oncoming headlights lost control on Water street. Joanne Fiscus 18 suffered facial injuries. Modeska Mikesell 22 was thrown from the car with leg burns. Rebecca Kovalchick 17 had a possible nose fracture. All treated at Indiana Hospital and discharged. Police estimated $975 damage to the car and $60 to a parking meter.
