Joseph M. Janer of Brooklyn was convicted of felonious assault on Catherine Loerch, five twelve, also of Brooklyn, and sentenced to twenty-one years in the Maryland penitentiary. Tried before Judges Burke and Duncan without a jury, the case showed Janer brought the child to Baltimore and subjected her to brutal ill treatment over two nights. He denied guilt on the stand as his wife sat in court.

Washington March 12 The department of agriculture orders that canned fish labeled dog and humpback salmon be titled with their common names. The rule also requires lake herring and cisco to be called by their proper names while avoiding the designation whitefish.
