Two Die in Tunnel Rock Fall on P R R Project
James W. Shirley aged 38 from Salisbury and James C. Merlo aged 38 from Crystal Falls Michigan died after a 30 foot roof section collapsed while they worked on a diesel shovel in a tunnel. The Feb 27 accident happened during the Conemaugh Reservoir program repair work that will cover part of the old railroad tracks. Shirley died at the scene and Merlo died 35 hours later in hospital.
